A l’heure où le Maroc est touché par une sécheresse exceptionnelle (cf. article du Monde), la génération Z doit prendre conscience des enjeux qui l'attendent. La durabilité est, d’ailleurs, l’un des thèmes du programme de spécialité LLCE anglais monde contemporain.
A ce titre, James MACGREGOR, expert international en changement climatique, durabilité et tourisme durable et président du cabinet Eco:plannet a accepté de faire une visioconférence en anglais aux élèves de spécialité LLCE sur les impacts du changement climatique dans le monde et plus spécifiquement au Maroc.
James a travaillé avec les Nations Unies, l’USAID et de nombreux organismes internationaux en tant que consultant. A ce titre, ce Canadien d’origine a travaillé dans 45 pays de par le monde remporté à deux reprises le trophée du Green Globe et celui du Tourism for Tomorrow par le WTTC, Conseil Mondial des Voyages et du Tourisme. C'était donc un immense honneur qu'il accepte notre invitation. Un immense merci pour avoir pris de son temps précieux pour partager son expertise avec nos élèves.
Dans le cadre de notre spécialité LLCER anglais, nous avons eu la chance d’assister à une conférence tenue par James MacGregor, président du cabinet Ecoplannet, architecte paysagiste et expert climatique.
Au cours de sa présentation, ce dernier nous a fait part d’informations très importantes sur le changement climatique puis il nous a expliqué qu'elle serait la situation de la ville d’Agadir face à un réchauffement qui s’accentue considérablement.
En effet, d’ici 2050, la zone touristique connaîtra des inondations et la température moyenne en été atteindra les 50 degrés celsius. L’expert climatique nous a également fait part de plusieurs solutions pour contrer cette catastrophe engendrée par l’homme dû aux activités anthropiques qu’il exerce. Ainsi, M. MacGregor nous a suggéré d’encourager la plantation d’arbres car ceux-ci ont la capacité de créer de l’ombre. Egalement, ils absorbent une partie du CO2 libérés dans l’atmosphère terrestre, le CO2 qui est un gaz à effet de serre ayant pour conséquence le réchauffement climatique.
M. Macgregor nous a énormément encouragés à adopter le compost en tant que méthode accessible à tous. Elle permet non seulement de bannir les pesticides en agriculture car ces derniers polluent entre autre la nappe phréatique. Mais, cette méthode permet également d’absorber le méthane qui est également un gaz à effet de serre ayant la même action que le CO2 car il est à noter que le sol absorbe autant que l’atmosphère terrestre.
Nous remercions infiniment Monsieur James McGregor pour son intervention très pertinente qui nous a permis d’en savoir plus sur le climat de façon générale mais également sur le réchauffement climatique que nous subissons ainsi que les dangers extrêmes causés par ce phénomène.

This conference was very interesting. As a matter of fact it has taught me many things about our planet’s situation worldwide but also in Morocco. I had no idea that water resources in Agadir were this scarce and that the weather will become this extreme in a couple of decades. I was shocked to learn these facts.
Mr. MacGregor has taught us as well how to fight climate change (compost, plant trees…). If we all follow his advice, we can help our planet and allow future generations to have a clean and durable home.

Today we had the honor to attend a video conference with James MacGregor. We were able to learn so much about what is going on with the world today. The environmental issue is becoming more and more important and it’s very important to raise awareness about it. We are very young but we must know the reality of facts, to be able to eventually try and do our best to make the future a little better.
Thanks to James MacGregor we learnt the consequences that will affect our city, Agadir, in the near future. The water levels will rise as well as the general temperature, the country will suffer from extreme drought (and we can already start to see it happening)…. Most importantly we were able to ask questions and interact directly, and we were able to ask what we could do to try and help with this issue. As a matter of fact, we were told to recycle, sort out our waste but mostly plant trees. James MacGregor emphasized a lot in planting trees and its benefits.
We are very grateful for this conference, we learnt a lot of valuable things and from now on I will definitely pay more attention in my everyday life to try and fight this issue for our future but also our planet’s well being.

Thank you Mr. MacGregor for sharing with us a moment of your precious time to inform us about global warming and its consequences in the world and also most precisely about our situation here, in Agadir, Morocco. It helped us to really understand the dangers we are exposed to and how we, as Agadir citizens, can help decrease the damages and consequences of various catastrophic events such as extreme weather, disappearance of bees, the decrease of water sources in agadir in 20 years and more... Thanks to this conference I had the opportunity to be more aware about a serious topic which is important to us all.
